With
the coming of the New Year comes the show in
San Francisco hosted by the Golden Gate Kennel Club.
This show is one of the few "benched" shows left in
the
country today. Most dog shows today are unbenched so
that when you are done showing for the day, exhibitors can go
home
with their dogs. At a benched show we stay, usually from
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. all dogs must remain on the benches,
which leads to a contest of decorating your bench area
for cash prizes. On this web page you will see the winning
decorating job of the Pug display our also ran and that of
some friends.
The main focus of a benched show is for the public to
be able to come to the show and see the breeds of dogs
they are interested in seeing with a larger window of
opportunity rather than a 1/2 hour time span of usually
unknown ring time coordinates for their interests.
If you ever have the opportunity to be in San Francisco
in late January early February look us up at this spectacular
exhibition in the sport of dog shows. |

This
was the Pug set up that won the Best decoration for a Group. |

Being
loners not part of a larger group we had less
space to decorate but that did not stop Lucy from
going crazy, there was as much left in the decoration
as you see here.
The Dogs pictured L to R are
"Momochi", "Rudy", and "BeeJay"
Missing is "Carder" whose turn it was to mingle in
the crowd. |

This
was the setup for friends or ours from California they have mult
breeds
Including Shibas, Akitas, and the Great Pyrenees. |

Of
course no trip to San Francisco would be complete without
checking out the many attractions to the Bay Area.
We went to Fisherman's Wharf Friday night
for a little relaxation and some seafood. |

The
Monster Truck in front of Lucy and Mike is from
Central Oregon of course but only as a coincidence. |

"THE
ROCK"
We know somebody who belongs here but we have to
leave who it is to your imagination ;-) |

Some
fake street cars on bus chasis, still worth seeing. Hmm Gold
& Red
remind you of any particular football team? |

Ahh
the destination for some food. |

Some
of the locals looking for a handout, these vultures were not
afraid of people,
they stood their ground if there was food available. |

Sunset
came quickly, Nicks Light House was our choice for dinner.
I am afraid the Mahi Mahi tasted more like trout than sea food. |

Good
night Fisherman's Wharf, big day tomorrow. |

This
is Mei, she is a daughter of BeeJay she belongs to
Betsy Ross (Sako), she owns the Dam or mom named Mioko who
is also a Black and Tan. |

This
is Dad Bee Jay just waking from a well deserved nap, he spent
most of the
bench time circulating among the throngs of sightseers at the
show.
|

Here
is the highlight of the trip with "Rudy"
taking Winner's Dog and a 5 Point Major, one more
major and "Rudy" will have his Championship. |
All
in all it was a fun trip, lots of miles there and back from Central
Oregon
but we feel this show is very important to the Sport of Pure
Bred Dog Shows.
It provides time to interact with the public and educate them
on this wonderful breed
of dog, The Shiba Inu.
